Tryout Procedures & Schedule - 2026

Schedule

Players must be registered the day prior to tryouts. Registration will not be open on the day of tryouts but will reopen for the day between tryout sessions.
Lead coaches have been assigned to each age group. These coaches will will create tryout plans to be run by a group of coach volunteers to run on the ice while the lead coach, Hockey Director, and another coach at large will perform evaluations.
8U Sparks - Ian Rhode
10U - Ryan Katt
12U - Andy Stukins
14U - Blayne Mathis
16U - Brian Deaton

Players will be evaluated based on hockey abilities, attitude, work ethic, and other qualities.
Parents will not be allowed in the rink during tryouts. Parents may view tryouts from the 2nd floor viewing area.
LiveBarn will be locked out.

The DYHA Board will meet in closed session Friday evening to review tryout results and ensure teams are being formed in line with expectations and in the best interest of hockey's long-term health and success in Decatur. Following Board review, offers will begin to be communicated.
The tryout fee is $200 for 10u-16u travel teams. This fee is retained in full by DYHA should the player receive a team offer after tryouts. If the offer is accepted, this amount is credited towards the season's dues. If the player does not receive an offer, DYHA will refund all but $50 of that fee.
Players issued offers will have a limited amount of time to accept the offer. Payment of the next dues payment is required to accept the offer.
