Beginners
DYHA Beginner Summer Session is a great way to get this season started! This will be a 12 session season and will help new skaters get a head start. At the end of the session, players will be evaluated to register for regular beginner season or go to their age appropriate level.
This will require full sets of protective gear and a hockey stick. Players will learn basic hockey skills including but not limited to: Skating, Stopping, Agility, Puck Handling, and Basic Game Play.

What aged players are appropriate for this program?
Answer: Appropriate players at least 4 years old.
When
What time of the year does this program run?
Answer: Summer session will start 7-13-26 thru 8-19-26
Where
Where are practices and games typically held?
Answer: Games will be held at the First National Bank Arena located in the Decatur Civic Center.
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
Answer: Teams practice 2 times per week.
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
Answer: This is a developmental program and will not include games.
Jerseys
Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?
Answer: Club jerseys are optional for beginners and may be purchased online at the DYHA Pure Hockey store.
Extra Costs
What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?
Answer: Full equipment will be required. For your convenience DYHA will offer Beginner equipment sets for purchase online in the DYHA Pure Hockey Store.
2026 BEGINNER SUMMER SESSION
DYHA has opened registration for the 2026 Beginner Summer Session
Skaters will get 12 sessions starting 7/13 thru 8/19 on Monday and Wednesdays from 5:45-6:15 pm
At the end of the session, players will be evaluated to determine if they are ready to move to their appropriate age level or register for the regular beginner season. The total dues will be $100 for the summer session.
